Avril gets engaged

Avril Lavigne is reported to have got engaged.

The Sun claims that the pop star was proposed to by boyfriend and fellow Canadian Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley in California at the weekend.

An insider told The Sun: "Avril has had a grin on her face ever since. She's really excited. People tag her as this miserable teenager but she couldn't be happier right now."

"She told her mum straight away and she has been totally buzzing. They haven't set a date yet but they want to walk up the aisle next year."

Lavigne, who turns 20 on September 27, was first revealed to be dating 24-year-old Whibley earlier this year.

The couple were reported to have bought a $15million [£8.4million] mansion in Beverly Hills together at the end of July.

A source told the National Enquirer: "Avril and Deryck are equal partners and are buying their house together... He doesn't want to be Mr. Lavigne any more than she wants to be Mrs. Whibley."

"They are determined to have an equal-partner marriage in the near future. And they're going to start out by living in an amazing house together."

Sum 41 release their fourth album, "Chuck", on October 12.
