Avril not engaged?

Sum 41's management has quashed rumours that frontman Deryck Whibley is to marry Avril Lavigne.
A statement given to MTV.com blames media interference for the rumour.
It reads simply: "Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 is not engaged.
"Deryck and his friends are constantly followed by paparazzi. The recent 'breaking news' that has been misconstrued around the world exemplifies the media's constant invasion of people's personal lives and reporting of unsubstantiated rumours and/or appearances."
The rumours first began circulating after The Sun newspaper reported that Whibley had proposed in California last weekend.
It was later noticed that Lavigne was wearing a large engagement ring on her ring finger at rehearsals for the 2004 World Music Awards.
The original Sun article had quoted an unnamed friend who said: "They haven't set a date yet but they want to walk up the aisle next year."
Lavigne’s management refused to comment on the singer's personal life.
