Ozz Idol

(Friday October 08, 2004 01:47 PM)

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are to front a new TV talent contest to find a new band for next year's Ozzfest.

"Battle for Ozzfest" will see eight bands compete on MTV for the coveted slot, as well as equipment and tour money.

Bands such as System of a Down, Incubus and Slipknot all played the festival - which will celebrate it's 10th anniversary in 2005 - at some point in their career.

Speaking yesterday, Sharon Osbourne said: "Ozzfest has been the launch pad for so many new acts, all of who have gone on to multi-platinum success."

Each episode of the show will feature the eight bands being put through the everyday tasks of being on tour.

Osbourne added: "Life on the road isn't always what it's cracked up to be and our bands are going to find that out, the hard way."

2004's festival saw a reformed Black Sabbath joined by the likes of Judas Priest, Slayer, Throwdown and Devil Driver in a tour around the US.

Sharon Osbourne, who is currently appearing in Simon Cowell's ITV series "The X-Factor", was the driving force behind reality TV show "The Osbournes" which reportedly earned the family $85m (£46m).
