Hawkins gets waxed

(Wednesday March 16, 2005 08:55 AM)

Justin Hawkins of The Darkness is to be immortalized in wax for a forthcoming Madame Tussauds exhibition entitled "Air Guitar Star".

The interactive exhibition will be built around the dummy of Hawkins which will advise members of the public on how to throw "wild air guitar moves".

This will involve putting wannabe rockers through a variety of moves including "The Fishtail Jump", "The Scissor Jump" and "The Windmill' as well as how to skid across a stage on your knees and leap into a crowd.

Once guests have delivered their "rock rampage", Hawkins' dummy will give his expert judgement on their axework with a personal guitar star rating.

This ranks from "Total Air Head" to "Air Guitar God".

The exhibit is due to be opened by Hawkins in person on March 17th.

His actual dummy will feature trademark flowing locks and an outlandish stage costume. It will also feature a Gibson Les Paul Custom Silver Glitter guitar commissioned by the singer himself.

A statement also confirmed that supporting the performance will be a spandex-clad backing band and a variety of props including tennis racquets and brooms will be on hand to help punters get into the rock star frame of mind.

The "Air Guitar Star" exhibition will run from March 17th throughout the Easter holidays.

Tickets are £15.99 for adults and £11.99 for children and can be booked in advance madame-tussauds.com.
