Live 8 ticket "disgrace"
(Tuesday June 14, 2005 02:35 PM)
Bob Geldof has reacted furiously to reports that tickets for next month's Live 8 concert in the UK are being sold for exorbitant figures on the internet.
Hundreds of tickets have been placed on auction sites such as eBay this morning for the UK leg of the global event, which is seeking to raise awareness of African poverty.
Geldof has branded the people involved in selling the tickets a "f*cking disgrace". Equally, music fans are attempting to jeapordise sales, with some bids currently standing at a rather insane £10 million.
Geldof, speaking hours after organisers began to confirm the ticket winners via text message, said today: "I am sick with this. It is a f*cking disgrace.
"It is completely against the interests of the poor. The people who are selling it are wretches," insisted Geldof. It is thought Live 8 insiders and eBay bosses are working on measures to block the sale of the tickets.
In more Live 8 news, The White Stripes have apparently been added to the line-up in London. If true, they will join U2, Madonna, Sir Elton John and Coldplay, amongst many others, on the bill.
