Sisters vs Floyd

(Friday September 08, 2006 01:33 PM)

Scissor Sisters star Jake Shears has called Pink Floyd's David Gilmour "a bastard" and revealed details of a serious fall-out between the pair.

The frontman of the pop icons is understood to have been invited to sing guest vocals on a live version of "Comfortably Numb" in New York City earlier this year by Gilmour.

Their cover of the seminal 1979 track famously broke the band globally in 2004, prompting Gilmour to ask Shears to join him on-stage during his solo tour.

However, the offer was withdrawn at the last moment, leaving Shears devastated. He has now insisted "it was like taking candy away from a kid."

"Earlier this year, David Gilmour told my manager that he wanted me to sing 'Comfortably Numb' with him at Radio City Music Hall for two shows", Shears told Uncut magazine.

"So of course I'm emotionally fragile and weeping - a mess. I was so over the moon because I can sing the hell out of that song - I've been singing it for the latter half of my life.

"So I was practising it and doing my vocal exercises to it, but the day before the gig they decided not to have any guests. They canned me. Bastards! It was one of the worst things you can do to anybody. I kind of hate him for it.

"It was like taking candy away from a kid. My mom was getting on a plane to come and see me," he said.

The new Scissor Sisters album, "Ta-Dah", is released on September 18.
