Proof conviction
(Thursday September 21, 2006 09:34 AM)
A man has been found guilty of two firearms charges, following the fatal shooting of rapper Proof.
The jury in a Detroit court convicted Mario Etheridge of carrying a concealed weapon and unlawfully firing a gun, after a shoot-out at the CCC Club in April.
The D-12 star was fatally wounded after being shot at the venue, which is on the city's infamous 8 Mile, resulting in Mario Etheridge facing the charges.
Etheridge, 28, was a bouncer at the club and is understood to have exchanged fire with Proof, resulting in his death, and also fired bullets into the ceiling as the rapper clashed with Keith Bender before being killed.
Bender, his cousin and a fellow bouncer at the 333, also died after the fracas, allegedly being shot by Proof, real name Deshaun Holton.
Etheridge faces nine years in prison for the pair of offences, but may escape jail because he has no previous convictions, Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Elizabeth Walker told the court.
He will be sentenced on October 17.
