Shakira backs Gordon
(Tuesday April 22, 2008 06:38 AM)
Shakira has spoken of her support for Gordon Brown, after the pair exchanged views on the subject of education across the world.
The Colombian pop star and British Prime Minister were amongst the international figures involved in a conference call on Monday.
Hosted by the Global Campaign For Education, the initiative seeks to meet a UN pledge of international benchmarks in schooling by 2015.
Shakira said of Brown: "I think he is a man with wonderful intentions and who is also very pro-active and who has been working very hard for this issue of education.
"I applaud his work and applaud the fact that he is brave enough to talk to celebrities like me", continued Shakira, who is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
"I think we are all on the same boat trying to get to the same shore, and trying to provide education for all children in the world", she continued.
Meanwhile, the embattled government chief returned Shakira's compliments and commended her work away from pop music.
"I think the most important thing that all those people who are household names would say is that their role is to galvanise public opinion throughout the world", he said.
