Keane crusade
(Wednesday September 23, 2009 06:43 AM)
Richard Hughes from Keane has joined an Amnesty International campaign to release a man on death row in America.
The band's drummer is expected to attend a meeting with Troy Davis in the Diagnostic And Classification Prison, Jackson, Georgia, to appeal his case.
He has called for a stay of execution against the prisoner, who was convicted in 1991 of killing a police officer two years earlier, calling him "a remarkable man".
"Troy is innocent, yet he has been on the brink of execution, only last-minute judgements keeping him alive. He continues to fight for the chance to prove his innocence", explained Hughes.
The US Supreme Court recently ruled that Davis is entitled to a new court hearing to investigate his position, in the face of crumbling evidence.
