Beatles papers auctioned

(Thursday October 29, 2009 10:53 AM)

Arrest papers detailing raids on members of The Beatles are to be auctioned later today.

John Lennon and George Harrison were both targeted in the '60s, as Scotland Yard looked to crack down on rock star's lifestyles.

John Lennon was the first to be hit in 1968, with cops finding cannabis resin at his home, resulting in his arrest and a £150 fine.

The following year, George Harrison's residency was raided while he was out at Sir Paul McCartney's wedding to Linda.

He was also arrested and fined in a move engineered by infamous London officer Det Sgt Norman Pilcher.

Amid allegations the campaign was a ruse for tabloid coverage, he was later imprisoned for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
