U2 headline Glastonbury
(Monday November 23, 2009 08:45 AM)
U2 will headline Glastonbury Festival next year, organisers have confirmed.
The Irish band will make their first appearance at the event to mark its 40th anniversary.
"The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true," festival founder Michael Eavis revealed in a statement.
"At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world.
"Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party," he continued, "and there are even more surprises in the pipeline..."
U2 will top the bill in Somerset on Friday, 25 June. The show on the Pyramid Stage will be their first festival date for more than 25 years and will come in the middle of a North American tour.
Tickets for this year's Glastonbury have already sold out.
