Doherty's "heart stopped"
(Tuesday November 24, 2009 05:22 AM)
Pete Doherty was put on a life support machine last month after being struck down by sickness, he has revealed.
The Babyshambles star cancelled a raft of tour dates in Ireland in October, citing exhaustion.
However, the former Libertine has now confirmed he was actually hospitalised in Swindon.
"If I hadn't been on a life support machine I'd have been in Ireland. But my heart stopped", he told the NME.
"Their immediate thought was that it was to do with drugs but it wasn't", he explained of the reaction from doctors.
"What happened? Well, I don't know. I don't remember. I was running into the walls, making steering wheel signs with my hands.
"And then I just...stopped. My body just stopped", said Doherty, who was released from care after one night.
The rocker has been deemed fit to make his return to the live stage next month.
