GaGa's Spotify windfall
(Tuesday November 24, 2009 10:06 AM)
Lady GaGa made just £100 from Spotify in royalties for her international chart-topper "Poker Face", according to reports.
The measly return on one of the biggest tracks of 2009 came from Sweden, where the peer-to-peer business is based.
Local newspaper Expressen claims the figures are based on more than one million plays across the last five months, amounting to $167.
"It is totally sick. We musicians have no rights, you may not charge any more", an unnamed recording artist claimed.
However, Spotify have insisted the figure is "unrepresentative" and dates from a period before the company took off internationally.
"Specific payments are of course confidential, but this is certainly wide of the mark", said a spokesman.
