X-Factor finalists in albums battle

(Monday March 20, 2006 10:12 AM)

X-Factor finalists Journey South and Andy Abraham are battling it out for the number one album this Sunday.

Both acts released their debut records - in time for Mother's Day - and they are flying off the shelves.

Journey South are just ahead in the race for the number one spot with their self-titled album, while former binman Andy is in second place with The Impossible Dream.

Woolworths music boss Jim Batchelor said: "Journey South have got off to a good start and look set to smash the 175,000 mark in their first week of sales.

"But Andy has also sold well and there's only a couple of hundred CDs in it. The race to be number one will go down to the wire.

"With Mother's Day around the corner, you couldn't have picked two better albums to appeal to mums. If you're a mum, expect to be unwrapping either Journey South or Andy Abraham albums on Sunday morning."

Sales at HMV have also been brisk and a spokesman said the two acts are on course for the number one and number two spots.

Journey South - Middlesbrough brothers Carl and Andy Pemberton - and London binman Andy were runners-up to Shayne Ward in the last series of The X-Factor.

Shayne's debut album is released next month.
