Spiller vocalist Sophie Ellis-Bextor has spoken of her delight at clinching the Number One spot from the grasp of Victoria Beckham.
Ellis-Bextor, former vocalist with defunct indie hopefuls theaudience, also said there were no hard feelings between her and Posh Spice, who was beaten to the top spot despite a desperate promotional campaign.
'I was just really assured because I felt like last week it was all about the hype and the music was lost. But we had the song that people wanted to listen to on a Friday or Saturday night.'
Speaking on UK TV this morning, Ellis-Bextor gave her thoughts on Posh. 'I don't think there were any hostilities at all actually – she seems like a really nice woman.'
'She could have got into name-calling, but there wasn't any of that. I was getting used to the idea of being number two all week, so I know that it's not really anything to be sad about.'
She admitted that her mother, former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, had cried when she hear the news that 'Groovejet' had beaten 'Out Of Your Mind' to Number One.
