Kravitz against war

(Wednesday March 26, 2003 07:44 AM)

Lenny Kravitz has become the latest US artist to voice his opposition to war in Iraq by posting a protest song online.

Recorded in Miami last week, 'We Want Peace' features Kravitz alongside Iraqi pop star Kadim Al Sahir, Palestinian musician Simon Shaheen and Lebanese artist Jamey Hadded.

The track is now exclusively available to stream on the youth oriented political site, www.rockthevote.org.

"I came to Rock the Vote because of its strong stance with young people as defenders of free expression," said Kravitz.

"This song for me is about more than Iraq; It is about our role as people in the world and that we all should cherish freedom and peace."

Jehmu Greene, Rock the Vote's executive director, added "Lenny Kravitz is a true patriot, and Rock the Vote is proud to support his artistic expression.

"We are here to rally young people to their sacred duty as patriotic Americans to speak out and participate in our democracy."

As previously reported, artists including REM, the Beastie Boys, Zach de la Rocha and DJ Shadow have posted anti-war songs online, with many more high-profile musicians having voiced their opposition to conflict.
